Katrina and Brian’s Tented Wedding | Pine Brook Horse Farm
Documented by Berit Bizjak (Principle) and Jason Langley (Second)
Katrina and Brian met at a polo match at the International Polo Club in Palm Beach, Florida. Katrina was a friend of the groom’s cousin and they used to ride horses together. So it was no surprise when we received the call from Stacey Sainato of Peony Events, to document this amazing affair, that the wedding would be held at Brian’s family horse farm in Newton, New Jersey. When asked about the significance of having the wedding at the farm Katrina shared, ” Both Brian and I grew up on farms as kids. My grandfather had a working dairy farm in Canajoharie, NY. The first time I came to see Brian at the farm, I felt like a little kid again.”
Katrina continues, “Having a wedding at the farm was a labor of love. Andrew, Brian’s father, leveled the backyard completely himself, rebuilt the stone wall leading up the driveway, repaved the driveway, and added a stone room downstairs as well as the bi-level patio. He also rebuilt a stone wall around the trees in the driveway- lots and lots of work! The result was a beautiful space for this very special event.”
Katrina and Brian’s wedding was everything you would expect from an elegant tented wedding on a horse farm. We met up with Katrina early Saturday morning as she was getting ready at the farm. Her simple, elegant look was done by Marissa of Bloom Studio for hair and by Amy Jones Baskin of Beauty on Location for her makeup. Shortly thereafter, her bridesmaids helped her step into an elegant Vera Wang gown from Mark Ingram Atelier in NYC.
After the couple’s first look, friends and family gathered in a private ceremony on the grounds and waited anxiously as Katrina and her father arrived via horse-drawn carriage. Brian’s uncle, James Fairclough, is a world famous carriage driver that has competed all over the world. He attended the World Equestrian Games and represented the United States. The lead horse, named Valentino, was Katrina’s favorite. The carriage was a 100-year-old English carriage that Jimmy borrowed and restored for the wedding. “I loved smelling the horses and hearing the sound of their feet on the driveway as we rode up and seeing their veins pop and sweat. Being around them made me feel calm!”, said Katrina.
Immediately following the ceremony, guests were treated to a beautiful cocktail hour under the trees on the property before heading into the tent for a night of delicious food, amazing music, and much dancing! The night ended with a bang as fireworks lit the nighttime sky!
When asked if there were any true surprises during the day Katrina shared, “I thought Brian was buying sparklers for the night but in the end it appeared he ordered a full display of fireworks! Also, the weather forecast was not great for our day and it did rain quite a bit. However, it stopped raining for the twenty-five minutes that we got married! I couldn’t believe it. On our way up to the ceremony, I asked my late brother JP for some good luck. He answered my prayers by helping the sun come out while we were at the alter 🙂 Thanks, JP!”
After the wedding, Katrina felt as if everything went by so quickly! “One minute we were getting dressed, the next it was over! I also thought “I wish I could do it all over again because it was SO much fun!”
